

HYE-YOUN LEE
A Story Steeped in Sound
Born in South Korea, Hye-Youn Lee pursued her musical education in Berlin, where she studied with Renate Krahmer and Julia Varady. Subsequently, she joined Les Jeunes Voix du Rhin at L’Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, where she made her debut as Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. She continued her training at L’Atelier Lyrique at L’Opéra National de Paris before deciding to relocate to the United Kingdom.
In the UK, Hye-Youn made her successful London debut as Marie La Fille du Régiment. Her exceptional talent was recognised when she was named Face to Watch in Classical Music 2013. Since then, she has performed with prominent opera and concert companies both in the UK and internationally.
Hye-Youn’s notable operatic roles include Violetta Valery in Verdi’s La traviata, Madame Mao Nixon in Verdi’s China for Scottish Opera, Musetta La Boheme in Grange Park, Mimi /La Boheme, Donna Anna /Don Giovanni for Scottish Opera, where she returned for the Verdi Collection, a Gala of Verdi extracts, and to sing Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen. She also took on the title role of Strauss’s Daphne for Scottish Opera and the title role of Madama Butterflyfor Islenka Operan and Finnish National Opera.
In concert, Lee has performed as a soprano soloist in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Filarmonica “George Enescu” in Bucharest, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, and at Sage Gateshead with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
